Dress of Darkness

Make for me a dress of darkness
A beautiful dress of darkness
With stars for buttons
Crescent moons for pockets
Shut your eyes in the darkness
Your skin is softer than I remember
Your arms stronger, the years longer
After Kapuskasing, where did you go?
To the north, in your parka and sunglasses

My clothes lie crumpled
At the foot of the bed
I am hiding inside your heartbeat
An open shell on an ocean wave
Let your soul be my jacket
Slipped around my shoulders
In the cool of the night

Make for me a dress of darkness
With crescent moons and stars
Secrets whispered in my ears
Your hand fits in mine
The touch of your fingers
Woven in the darkness
Woven in the fibre of your dreams

Wrap me in your arms
Under a starblanket sky
Your skin is softer than I remember
Your hands warmer
Dream me awake in the darkness
My beautiful dress of darkness
Dream me awake under your starblanket
Woven with the fibre of your dreams
